In 2019 MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre paved the way by becoming Ireland’s first age-friendly shopping center. Our previous centre manager Marion Acreman vigorously pushed for the acceptance of all age groups within the centre and with the help of the assistant manager Donna Byrne, the customer service team and Age-Friendly Ireland they were able to achieve this, To this day with the help of our current Centre manager Andrew Diggins we have been able to continue this amazing program.

What do we offer that makes our shopping centre age-friendly?

Every Wednesday morning we have an over 60’s morning from 9 AM to 1 PM where we offer anyone with a discount card (this can be got from our customer service desk) various discounts in participating stores and cafes, We also change our music to more classical music and we lower the volume. We also offer age-friendly parking spaces close to the entrance to the shopping centre. Some of our stores even offer reading glasses that are available for use at the checkouts. Some of our staff members are also trained in dementia awareness. We also have two wheelchairs that can be located in our car park office in the red car park and can be used free of charge.
