Last week I was delighted to be asked to MC the Peter Mark Hair Styling Masterclass at MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre. I had never been an MC for any event before so it was exciting, while a little daunting. The team at Peter Mark and Centre Manager Marion Acreman were so helpful and put me at ease. The event was located in the middle of the shopping centre by the customer service desk which was perfect as people could drop by and then come and go as they pleased. It was a busy day at MacDonagh as there were plenty of ladies picking up their outfit for a night on the town in the hope that Kilkenny would win the hurling semi-final, which they did.
First up Grainne (hair stylist at Peter Mark) demonstrated the Boho Waves look on Karina, who is manager of MacDonagh’s Peter Mark. This is a beautiful relaxed look and achievable with practice. The whole idea of the Hair Styling Masterclass was to help us ladies achieve that finished look at home and for it not to be too time consuming. Grainne said once you get the hang of this look it is achievable in half an hour which is great if you don’t have time to go to the hairdressers. I was particularly interested in the Boho Waves, as it works well in short hair and hair that’s cut in a bob. The boho waves don’t bounced up like the standard GHD curls which is a must for shorter hair.
You start from the bottom, taking small sections at a time and put in one twist, letting the ends flick out. When you first start you think barely anything is happening, however the more of your head you do it gathers momentum giving you that relaxed finished look. For ladies with a bob it’s the same principal but you don’t start at the very bottom, you start a section up. This is due to the very bottom of the bob being graduated. Grainne said the boho waves is best carried out with a GHD. This look would be perfect for a night out, daytime or festivals. In my opinion you could wear it anywhere.
There is a wide variety of products available in Peter Mark for this and although I knew it was important I didn’t realise how damaging the effects are if you don’t use heat protection. Aoife also demonstrated a look that will take you from day to night, perfect for anyone who works late and then might have to go straight out after. She did GHD curls on Aisling from Smashbox’s (see previous Smashbox post here) hair for the daytime look and for the night-time look pinned it up with bobby pins very simply. Once you master the GHD curl this look is easy to do.
Peter Mark have a variety of products for all different types of hair and I found it really interesting when Aoife touched on these. I find my hair gets greasy very quickly and I have to wash it every day. Aoife and Grainne both informed me that I shouldn’t have to do this and I’m more than likely using the wrong products. Peter Mark offer customer consultations where you can talk about these issues and they will recommend products specifically for your hair type. Also, if you have a hair appointment the girls mentioned they would be more than happy to talk you through the above looks. I know where I’m off to once pay day arrives!
